Apple TV Twitter Account Launches on Same Day as Prime Video

Apple TV Twitter Account Launches on Same Day as Prime Video

A new Apple TV Twitter account has launched. It replaces the iTunes Movies account on the social network. The change comes on the same day Amazon Prime Video arrived on Apple TV.

As of today, Dec. 6, Apple’s iTunes Movies account on Twitter is no more. Instead, the account is called simply “AppleTV.” The first tweet after the switch, not surprisingly, highlights today’s heavily anticipated arrival of Amazon Prime Video to the Apple TV lineup.

Besides promoting Amazon Prime Video, the tweet also mentions the Apple TV app, rather than the Apple TV device itself. This suggests Cupertino had big plans for the Apple TV app in the coming year.

First introduced in late 2016, the Apple TV app is available for iOS devices and Apple TV.

The newly rebranded Apple TV Twitter account also highlights the new Live Sports feature, introduced with iOS 11.2 earlier in the week.

As Apple explains:

Starting this week, the Apple TV app — a unified place for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV users to discover and start watching the best shows and movies — supports live sports, giving fans in the US a simple and seamless way to keep track of their favorite teams and games in real time. Participating sports apps in the Apple TV app include ESPN and the NBA, developed in partnership between the NBA and Turner Sports, with more to be added soon.

Elsewhere, Apple has confirmed the Amazon Prime Video app integrates with the Apple TV app, at least in some countries. It’s also fully compatible with the Apple TV 4K.

As Apple’s Eddy Cue notes:

Amazon Prime Video is one of the most eagerly anticipated apps to come to Apple TV, so we’re excited to bring all of that great content to customers. The Sports tab in the Apple TV app makes it even easier for fans in the US to track the teams, games and moments that are important to them. With these exciting updates, plus our growing collection of 4K HDR movies on iTunes, we continue to deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience to Apple customers.
